Green Moon Project – Team Indus (Lab2Moon competition) 6B Type 3

Green Moon Project (6B Type 3) Plants have been and are one of human progress pillars. From nutrients source (oxygen, vitamins, etc) to resource on research and development, passing through materials source, such as wood or cork; plants are very related with evolution of humankind and sustainability.

We are going to try to see what phenotype present plants under a new gravity stress and their growth on different substrates: ground from Earth crust (3rd culture tube), a second substrate taken directly from Moon surface (2nd), the third one contains an equal mixing between both of them (1st) and the last one is the same substrate of the second (taken from Moon) enriched with essential nutrients which are missing on the Moon (4th).

The 4 tubes have the same environmental stressors (except substrate composition). In theory, the plant with Earth substrate and the plant whose substrate is from Moon surface plus nutrients should grow the same. The plant with a lunar substrate should show a smaller phenotype than the others. Mixing substrate should allow to the plant growth to reach a mixing phenotype among Earth and Moon features.
The achievement to reach is compare phenotypes between different substrates and also how lunar gravity affects on growth processes.
To support the above, it should be designed and prototyping a mini capsule (soda can) latasolidworkswhich has included multiple electronic and mechanical components. ARDUINO UNO controls the 4 white LEDs

to simulate the day and it also controls night hours (LEDs off) at least 8 hours. There is a USB jack. Its weighs less than 250 grams. The can is surrounded by a layer of thermal insulation and anti-radiation and an outermost layer of solar panels.

The tubes are observed by four cameras.
